What is F.I.T.?
In New Mexico, early intervention services for children under the age of three are provided through the Department of Health’s Family Infant Toddler (FIT) program. This state and federally funded entitlement program supports families with children who have or are at risk for developmental delays or disabilities. Early intervention services can begin at any point between birth and the child's third birthday. However, research shows that the earlier these services are provided, the better the outcomes for both the child and the family.
How much does it cost?
All early intervention services are free to families.
There is no charge regardless of your family’s health insurance status.
The mission of the FIT program is to empower families to address the developmental and health-related needs of their infants and toddlers. The program is dedicated to providing support and services that are:
Family-Centered: Focused on the needs and priorities of the family as a whole.
Relationship-Based: Built on strong, trusting relationships between families and providers.
Strengths-Focused: Emphasizing the unique strengths of both the child and the family.
Delivered in Natural Environments: Offered in the places where the child lives, learns, and plays
